Anti-scam & safer exchange guide
Keep plans in the platform, protect personal information, and stop whenever something does not feel right. Student-focused access reduces some risk; it does not guarantee that every user or listing is safe.
Before paying
Verify the item and the payment yourself
- See and inspect the furniture before paying whenever possible.
- Do not trust a payment screenshot or email. Open your own bank or payment app.
- Never refund an alleged overpayment or pay a fee to receive money.
Protect your identity
Share less personal information
- Never send a password, verification code, bank login, or identity document.
- Do not scan a QR code to “prove you are real.”
- Do not put an exact address, apartment, room, phone, or private email in a post.
- Share an exact pickup location only when needed and only with the confirmed person.
Meet safely
Plan the handoff in the conversation
- Confirm the item, time, and handoff plan inside Campus Furniture Exchange.
- Meet in daylight or a familiar, well-lit place; bring a friend when possible.
- Inspect the furniture before considering the transaction complete.
- Be extra cautious when the payer, courier, friend, or pickup person are different people.
Recognize pressure
Common warning signs
- The price is implausibly low or the seller will not show the item or a live video.
- Someone rushes you, changes payment methods, or insists on leaving the platform.
- A buyer claims a special Zelle, Venmo, PayPal, courier, or business-account process.
- A stranger asks you to contact a relative, mover, or middleman to complete payment.
